What Is Internet Marketing?

 

Internet marketing is a number of marketing activities that can be done online which include affiliate marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, blogging, paid marketing, search engine optimization and more.

Understanding The Internet Marketing Field

 

There’s a lot to learn, however everyone has to start somewhere. There are a lot of terms that may or may not be confusing to you, depending on your knowledge of the field. There are four general phases to really understanding internet marketing and making money online.

 

1) What’s actually happening online and how is money made?

 

At the start you have to focus on value, not revenues. In the beginning you do the most amount of work for the least return.

 

If you’re short on cash and hoping to make some fast money online, you’ll be disappointed. There’s no such thing as getting rich quick. All these schemes are selling you short. You have to put in the time and do the work while adding enormous value.

 

There are things associated with internet marketing such as affiliate marketing, network marketing, multi-level marketing and more. Affiliate marketing is really tough unless you have an enormous following or you know how to build first-rate squeeze pages and great sales funnels. You need to know the virtual landscape before undertaking creating your own digital products and sales funnels.

 

2) What do you want to do?

 

Once you understand how things work you need to decide what you want to do. Do you want to be an affiliate marketer, a network marketer, a blogger?

 

Whatever you do you’ll need traffic. You need to drive traffic to your offers with squeeze pages or landing pages which have a call to action and a sign-up form. This is your first contact with customers or your follow up after you’ve made initial contact. Learn the right skills as you go so that you can become effective. It will take time. Just don’t give up.

 

3) Know how you will communicate.

 

You should actually decide this before you start online. Will you blog, build a list, use social media or do JVs? Whatever you do, be straight with people and learn to communicate effectively and understand every stage of the process.

 

4) What’s your passion?

 

Decide what you’re passionate about and pick a niche. Get a custom domain and set up a professional-looking site that will be your place of business to which everything will be linked. All of your advertising, SEO, social media, etc. will be directed here.

 

Create free enticing offers to capture names and email addresses with your squeeze pages to start building your funnels. This will all take time, and you will profit in the end. It may all seem confusing at first. Internet marketing is a constant complicated process. Beware of unscrupulous individuals bearing shiny trinkets. Follow and learn from reputable people online. Don’t fall for the hype.

 

So, view the big picture of what’s actually happening online and how money is made, decide what you want to do and how you wish to communicate, figure out your passion and pick a niche.

*What are your customers roles?
*Do they have decision-making authority?
*What are the demographics…

 

Every marketing strategy should start with your customer base. Who are the people using your product? What do these individuals value, what do they feel, what products are they currently using, and what will it take to sign them on as paying customers?

 

Marketing is about human-to-human relationships and can happen through any online or offline medium. At the end of the day, your customers probably won’t remember whether they found your company through a click on a Facebook ad or through a referral from a friend.

3 Keys to Internet Marketing

There are at least three things an Internet marketer needs for business; targeted traffic, a product or service, and a marketing funnel. Following are three keys to Internet Marketing.

 

Targeted Customers

 

You need targeted customers who are genuinely interested in your products or services. You can buy traffic or use free sources or both. You should be very careful when using paid sources for traffic, as it can become extremely expensive in a really short period of time.

 

Product or Service

 

Your product or service can be an actual physical product that is shipped to buyers or a digital product that can be instantly downloaded to their computers. If you don’t have your own product, you can use sources like Click bank, JV Zoo, and Deal Guardian, to name a few.

 

Just be sure that whatever the source, they are good products and not junk. You don’t want to taint your reputation. You can also become an affiliate for most products and earn commissions. Research the products and choose those with the best payout. You don’t want to spend your time promoting products that pay very little. Promote products that you use.

 

Follow-up Strategy

 

You need a follow up strategy for people who do not buy from you the first time they visit your site. A marketing funnel serves that purpose by capturing visitors’ information and adding them to your list of prospects to be contacted at a later date.

 

A marketing funnel is the process used to turn leads into customers beginning with the first interaction with you.

 

When someone sees an Ad linked to your venture and checks it out, it’s the first contact. Now you need a way to capture their information in order to follow up with them to get them to know, like, and trust you. You should have a form on that page asking for a name and email address. When this form is filled in, the prospect is taken to your thank you page which includes a link for the free gift you’ve offered in exchange for their information. This puts them on your list, and you can send them future emails that build a relationship, which will eventually entice them to buy from you.

 

Once you have a prospect’s information you can remind them of your products and services in a number of ways that include email marketing, online webinars and social media.

 

You can use an email autoresponder to develop the connection between you and a prospect. An autoresponder is a program that automatically generates a set response to all messages sent to a particular email address.

3 Tips for Promoting Your Site

Decide what kind of business you want.

Decide what your business will be. Then set up a blog centered around that interest and promote it with content marketing using your own original articles. Blogging is a great way to establish your online presence. You can employ different marketing strategies to promote your site (blog). These can include articles for ezines, the use of social media platforms like Facebook, paid Ads through Google, and other avenues.

 

Be sure your blog is one over which you have total control, NOT a Blogger or a Blogspot platform. I recommend WordPress.org and NOT WordPress.com. If you use WordPress.org you will have to find your own hosting company and buy a domain name. Domain names cost about ten dollars a year, and you can use GoDaddy.com, NameCheap,com DomainOrb.com or another company of your choice to find a domain name.

 

Write content
Write content for your particular audience that solves a particular problem and encourages engagement. Content marketing is about sharing valuable information to attract prospects and turning them into customers and repeat buyers.

 

You can use your own fresh content to keep your blog up to date and that entices visitors to return.

 

Once you gain more visibility in the search engines you begin to look more authoritative. It’s human nature to gravitate toward those with authority.

 

Post regularly
Make regular posts to your blog and use SEO so you get found by search engines. Be sure to use a call to action (CTA) in your posts with a clickable link that instructs people to click for information or products that you are offering which can help solve their problem. If you have a list you can keep them updated about your latest posts.

 

Before setting up your blog, take time to carefully decide whom you will be writing for and the type of content that you will include.
