4 Main Types of Email Marketing

by Rahimah Sultan

What is email marketing?

It’s basically self-explanatory. The Wikipedia definition is:

Email marketing is the act of sending a commercial message, typically to a group of people, using email. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. It involves using email to send advertisements, request business, or solicit sales or donations. Wikipedia

Email is one of the most trusted communication channels available to marketers. You have to have an email address to perform many things online that include online banking and opening a Facebook account, so just about everyone with internet access has a valid email address.

The most successful email marketing campaigns begin with a targeted email list of qualified leads who are interested in what you’re offering.

What are the types of email marketing?

There are many. In this article I shall discuss four main types of email marketing:

Welcome
Email Newsletters
Transactional Emails
Behavioral Emails

1. WELCOME EMAILS

Welcome emails are the first communication you’ll have with prospective customers. You need to nurture your contacts and give them a chance to get to know, like and trust you.

Welcome emails should offer a personal touch and introduce you without a sales pitch. You need to build a relationship, work on giving a good first impression. They should illustrate your knowledge and expertise and pave the way for future contact.

2. EMAIL NEWSLETTERS

An email newsletter works well for B2B (Business to Business) communication. You can use it as a method to educate customers and prospects about your products, as well as showcase employee profiles, company projects, and relevant graphics. Hubspot is a good marketing CRM (customer relations management) tool that’s free and you can upgrade  later to grow your business. (I get no fee for this. It’s just a suggestion.)

When creating an email newsletter You should consider a variety of factors including:

Content length
Type of information
Placement of images and text
Design
CTA (Call to Action)

As you work on your newsletter layout and content creation, remember your goal and be sure you’re working toward it by prioritizing the design and positioning of calls-to-action.

The advantages of email newsletters are:

Creating Brand Awareness: A newsletter, like a newspaper, creates a certain anticipation in readers. They get into the habit of receiving it, so make sure you’re sending it at regular intervals, be it daily or weekly, thus building a habit in your email subscribers which allows them to recognize your brand and associate it with a positive experience.

Repurposing Content: A newsletter usually contains already published information. You can do quick summaries of your most popular blog posts and link to the articles from your newsletter. This will bring your subscribers back to the company website and connect them with more company content.

Diversification of Content: You can use an email newsletter to include different kinds of content important to your business or organization. That can be popular blog posts, new offers, upcoming events, discounts, etc.

3.
TRANSACTIONAL EMAILS

Transactional emails are usually initiated by a prospect or customer interaction with a website or an app. For example, password resets delivery information and receipts, email receipts, invoices, billing statements, and order confirmations.

Transactional emails are used to enable a transaction already agreed upon by a customer and shouldn’t market or promote any product or service or generate additional revenue.

Usually, transactional emails don’t require permission, whereas you MUST get customer consent to send marketing emails. And, with marketing emails, there must always be an unsubscribe option for the customer.

Be sure you’re compliant with email sending laws in all the countries in which you do business.

4. BEHAVIORAL EMAILS

Behavioral emails are automated emails sent to people who have given their permission to have emails sent to them that may contain advertising materials, offers, company digests, invitations to events, video reviews, and other content.

These emails are sent after a user interacts with a business on social media, the company’s website, email, and other channels. They help increase customer engagement and sales. With behavioral email, site visitors receive different types of emails, depending on their specific actions.

Email marketing principles are the same for anyone, not just big businesses.

Almost everyone who has Internet access has at least one active email address.

Email marketing gives you the opportunity to build personal relationships with your audience.

Email makes it easy to combine all your marketing campaigns.

Email marketing is easy to manage, gives you full control, and allows you to establish a direct contact with your customers.

Although there are more, these four main types of email marketing will help you with your marketing strategy.

Blogging for Business

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

If you run a small company or are thinking about starting a business, you may find that the world of blogging is something you want to be part of. It’s a great way to get the word out to consumers about your product or service.

As a business owner, the key to having a successful blog is keeping your goals clear and concrete at every step of your blogging journey. If you’re just learning about the exciting possibilities of blogging technology, it’s very easy to get sidetracked.

If you want your blog to succeed you need to stay focused. Write up a plan that includes how often you will update, how you will promote your blog and retain readers, whether you will feature photographs or video, and other aspects, and then stick to it with the same kind of determination that you used when you first started your business.

Blogging is an essential way to get your message out to others. You can incorporate text, pictures, links, short videos, or other media in your posts to make your content more appealing to readers.

There are many platforms for blogs that include WordPress.com, WordPress.org, Blogger, and Tumblr. There are pros and cons to consider when choosing a platform. You have to make an assessment and choose the one that best suits your needs for now and in the future.

WordPress.com is free but you will not technically own your blog. It can be suspended at any time, and .wordpress is in your domain name. WordPress.org is free, you have control and there are search engine friendly options, although you must pay a host to support it.

WordPress.org requires you to have some basic understanding of how the web servers and the installation process works. Although you can set one up in under 5 minutes, WordPress.org requires some technical skill for uploading files to a web server using FTP (file transfer protocol) and such.

Blogging for business is a way to showcase your passion and expertise and a way to brand yourself and your products. It allows you to present your knowledge and skills to the public. A good post length can contain as few as 350 to 400 words.

If you’re looking for a way to take your business to the next level, consider what starting a blog might be able to do for you.

If you have been thinking about blogging for business, now may be the time to start. Once you get your blog up and running and get a few followers your confidence will grow. Just take the first step.

Blog Article Marketing

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

Blog article marketing is useful for your online business. It’s a cost-effective way to drive traffic to your website or blog, a way to get your website indexed on search engines, a way for web promotion and backlinks, and it’s a vehicle for obtaining potential customers.

Cost

You can showcase your business, products and/or services for free or you can use paid advertising or both. When you write about what you’re offering, you can place a link in the article that redirects wherever you wish – another article or website.

Traffic

Write quality, keyword-rich, informative articles to pull in more online consumers and Internet users to view your site.

Website Indexing

When you use keyword-rich articles with proper SEO your site can be found by search engines which in turn allows more people to find you and your information.

Promotion and Backlinks

In your article writing, the links you include can give you more exposure and get more people viewing your site. Good quality articles are important for gaining more readers.

When writing a new article, link to one of your other articles. Using one article to promote another will increase reader interest.

Obtaining Customers

Blog article marketing is an effective way to convert readers into potential customers and boost online business.

Aim for writing a minimum of one article a week. Creating content regularly will also enable you to produce content more efficiently in the future. Use your articles to offer knowledge to your readers. People are always looking for free advice. Use your own voice when writing. Don’t try to sound like an expert, unless you are.

An article is a full-text document that is used for communicating information and creating awareness about your product or service. It has become the successful way to drive more traffic to your website.

If you own a business or home business and want to spread the word about it, blogging can be a method of doing so and a way of branding yourself. You can write articles about your products or services and post them on your blog with a link to those products or services.

Use blog article marketing to keep down advertising costs, pull in more online consumers and Internet users to view your site, for website indexing on search engines, for promotion and backlinks, and for obtaining customers for your products or services.

3 Tips for Promoting Your Site

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

If you are thinking about setting up an online business or wondering how to promote one, the following 3 tips for promoting your site will be helpful.

Decide what kind of business you want.

Decide what your business will be. Then set up a blog centered around that interest and promote it with content marketing using your own original articles. Blogging is a great way to establish your online presence. You can employ different marketing strategies to promote your site (blog). These can include articles for ezines, the use of social media platforms like Facebook, paid Ads through Google, and other avenues.

Be sure your blog is one over which you have total control, NOT a Blogger or a Blogspot platform. I recommend WordPress.org and NOT WordPress.com. If you use WordPress.org you will have to find your own hosting company and buy a domain name. Domain names cost about ten dollars a year, and you can use GoDaddy.com, NameCheap, com DomainOrb.com or another company of your choice to find a domain name.

Write content
Write content for your particular audience that solves a particular problem and encourages engagement. Content marketing is about sharing valuable information to attract prospects and turning them into customers and repeat buyers.

You can use your own fresh content to keep your blog up to date and that entices visitors to return.

Once you gain more visibility in the search engines you begin to look more authoritative. It’s human nature to gravitate toward those with authority.

Post regularly
Make regular posts to your blog and use SEO so you get found by search engines. Be sure to use a call to action (CTA) in your posts with a clickable link that instructs people to click for information or products that you are offering which can help solve their problem. If you have a list you can keep them updated about your latest posts.

Before setting up your blog, take time to carefully decide whom you will be writing for and the type of content that you will include.

One of the best ways to showcase your knowledge and skills is to provide content that can help your audience.

You can share your blog content on social media to encourage communication with your target audience and then use those channels to promote audience participation by redirecting them to your blog or a particular post, and you can ask for feedback.

So, thoroughly consider the type of business you want, set up your site, write content to promote your business and gain authority, and make regular posts to your blog. Using these 3 Tips for Promoting Your Site will help you get started.
