How To Start Your Blog

by Rahimah Sultan

Starting your own blog doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, although it can be intimidating. I am going to show you how to start your blog today and eliminate some of the confusion.

Today more people than ever are online. This presents a great opportunity for you to have recognition, income, fun and to share your ideas with like-minded people.

You may have considered setting up a blog on a free site. This sounds good, but you’ll have no real control and the company that owns the space makes money from your time and hard work by placing advertising on it and selling you upgrades.

You will not be able to sell your products on that kind of blog.

Since you do not own the blog there is no security. If the blog gets hacked the hacker can steal your domain name and you may never get it back.

No matter what kind of blog you want to start, using a free site is not worth that risk.

Here are a few tips for how to start your blog today and avoid the problems of a free site.

Pick Domain Name

Decide on a topic that interests you and something that you absolutely love for your primary business or topic. Take some time and think it through thoroughly, because you will have a tough time trying to change it later.

Always use a .com extension whenever possible as opposed to a .net, .biz or some others. Most people automatically use .com when trying to find an online site. Then choose a related domain name.

I suggest using a domain registrar such as:

http://www.godaddy.com
http://www.namecheap.com
http://www.networksolutions.com
http://www.onlydomains.com

There are many more domain registrars available. It does not matter where you buy a domain name. You can Google registrars and compare costs. Do not use any of the extras that they offer, just your domain name. Your hosting company will have the services you need.

Once you have your domain name you can point it to your hosting company’s servers. This gives you total control of your site.

I do not recommend using your hosting company’s domain registration services, as that can sometimes lead to problems. Just use a regular listed domain registrar and then change your servers through that registrar to point to your hosting company.

If you do not plan to sell your blog in the future, I suggest using your own name. If that is a common name and is already taken, add your middle initial or a word at the beginning or end or something that still identifies you and your topic and is unique.

Choose Web Host

There are plenty of hosting sites from which to choose. I suggest the one I use which offers web hosting, an email follow up system, video producer and more for your advertising needs, and it is VERY cost effective.

Create your site at your hosting company by logging in and using the web host manager to create a new account.

Install Blog

Go to WordPress.org (NOT WordPress.com) which is a free platform and download the software and install it at your hosting company. There are instructions on the WordPress site. It is not complicated and takes only a few minutes. Once you have installed WordPress, you are ready to start posting.

Do make sure you use unique creative user names and passwords for security reasons, and write them down as you go so that you can access everything on your site if something happens to your computer.

I hope these few tips help to de-mystify how to start your blog.

Blog Promotion for Internet Marketers

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

In this article Blogger Darren Rowse discusses how to promote your blog without letting the rest of your blogging slide. He shares a particular comment that was in response to an article on how his blogs grew. This is his summary for the article.

There are a couple of things that I think we as bloggers always need to pay attention to – these being publishing regular high quality content on our blogs and looking after the readers we already have (community).

These activities are like a baseline. Take the focus off these at any point and your blog is likely to suffer fairly quickly.

Promoting a blog is something you should also have some baseline activities and rhythm around. For example sharing new content to social media (whether through automation or manually doing it) is good practice.

However I do think there are times where it’s probably well worth having a burst of concerted promotional effort to grow your blog.

Whether it be through guest posting, reaching out to mainstream media, attending/speaking at events or even paying for advertising – a burst of intentional promotional activity for a defined period can have some real benefits.

Four Types of Articles for Internet Marketers

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

We all know that blogs can be for personal or business use, and the reason for blogging is to get people to your site to see what you are offering so you can make sales. The type of content used is determined by the purpose of your blog. This is an overview of Four Types of Articles for Internet Marketers: Junk, Product, Information, and Viral.
Junk
A junk article is only fodder and is of inferior quality that contains readily available material used to supply a heavy demand for gossip or some other such thing.

Product
You use a product article to describe what you are selling and how it is used. In order for this type of article to be effective, you must state how the particular product can solve a problem for your potential customer.

Informational
An information article requires a bit of work, and you can use it to maximize the quality of traffic to your site. This type has a narrow topic based on the keywords for your site, which draws in a particular kind of prospect. If you have used SEO correctly, someone searching for something to solve a particular problem can end up on your site and become a customer.

A WordPress blog in the root of your site is the way to go. You can use an SEO plugin like the All in One SEO Pack that allows you to optimize each article and each page on your blog for particular keywords. If you do one article per week focusing on one of your site’s long-tailed keywords, in 52 weeks you can get an amazing amount of organic (free) traffic to your site. Be sure to include a call to action, such as Click Here for More Information, in the article. Then make your call-to-action a clickable link that leads to a squeeze page, a sales page, an affiliate link or wherever you want to take them.

Viral
A viral article is one that takes advantage of trending news events, funny videos or something of that nature, and is used mainly for getting links as opposed to quality traffic.

Whether you choose one or all four types of articles, this overview of Four Types of Articles for Internet Marketers gives you some ideas for future posts. When you click the banner below you have an opportunity for access to more information on all aspects of setting up and growing a business, including extensive material on Article Marketing.

Should I Use a Blog or a Website for My Internet Marketing?

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

First of all a blog IS a type of website. Basically, anything on the Internet is a website. A website is any place you can visit online through a URL or a Domain. The answer to the question ‘Should I Use a Blog or a Website for My Internet Marketing’ is YES.

Let me explain. Blogs were created to make regular posts in chronological order, usually with the latest on top. A post is anything you want to write about or articles related to whatever your site is about. Now blogs use a set of tools that allow you to add, remove, and edit your online content. If you use a WordPress blog you do not have to know any code to have your own blog/website.

If you want to have a web presence, all you have to do is set up a static site on a WordPress platform and add plugins and custom themes (templates) to expand your blog/website with thousands of features.

Using a blog style website is the fastest and easiest way to get started online for a hobby or an Internet business. Should I use a blog or a website for my Internet marketing is now a moot point. Search engines love blogs. Every time you add new content it is picked up by them. If you post new and relevant content regularly, you will get return visitors to your blog.

Most WordPress themes allow you to set up a static website and then add the blogging component as a separate section of your website.

There’s no need to choose between a blog and a website when you can have them both. And you do not have to manage two separate sites.

How To Build Backlinks

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

While doing some online research I came across an article on backlinks. The author, Lee Joseph LaCasse, discusses how to build backlinks when surfing. He details how to research a product you want to buy, by using the Firefox browser that has a page rank add-on, and then leave a comment on that site. You can then determine the page rank before leaving a comment which points back to your blog. Make sure what you say is relevant to the actual article. Most of the time the webmaster will approve it because that is a possible sale.

You can also get another link by leaving an anchor text embedded in your comment. Building back links this way accomplishes two things at one time. If you do this weekly your number of backlinks will quickly increase. The author also suggests a way to get backlinks without doing a Google search.

As you know, backlinks to your blog can get you higher rankings in the search engines which means there are more eyeballs on your site and more prospective buyers for your products and services.

You can read how to build backlinks by surfing, for more details.

Blogs

by Rahimah Sultan
Only a few years ago very few people were using blogs to get their message out. Now that blogging is cool more people are doing it. If you are serious about blogging the best platform to use is WordPress.

WordPress is the global community that creates plugins that can make your blog sizzle. If you want to optimize your posts and content for search engines, there’s a free plugin for that.

With WordPress you have numerous benefits along with low cost and flexibility. There are free plugins that stop spam, optimize your blog for search engines, and more.

Jeff Bullas has detailed the 25 most popular plugins in his article The Top 25 WordPress Plugins. (Click here to read)

Blogs are like mini websites. They are free and easy to use and offer a variety of page styles to fit almost any user. They are online journals that allow other people to read your thoughts and reply to them. Blogs allow you to Link to other interesting sites on the Internet and discuss them. You can promote and sell products, talk about your hobbies or share videos or whatever you wish that you don’t mind sharing publicly.

Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic Part Two

by Rahimah Sultan

This is part two of Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic. In part one we covered getting backlinks, SEO and better SEO positioning. We will now discuss social networks, forums / discussion boards / online communities, video sharing, and review sites.

As stated before, the series contains seven videos. This article covers the last four of the seven Marketing Roadmap Success strategies for getting free traffic to your site.

1)  Social Networks

Facebook and Twitter are both social networking tools, like an online community. You can use them to find people you know, business partners, and business groups and prospective connections. To sign up is free, and you can easily integrate the two so that people can keep up with you and get to know you better. This is a way of building trust between you and prospective clients.

2)  Forums, Discussion Boards and Online Communities

Forums, discussion boards, and online communities are similar to blog posting and comment posting so there are not a lot of different things to learn. You just have to follow the guidelines for each. To find forums and the like, just do a search online for ones that suit your needs. Used correctly these methods can get you good backlinks and good traffic back to your site.

3)  Video Sharing Sites

Video sharing gets traffic back to your site, especially if you use You Tube and Facebook and integrate them with Twitter.  The tools you’ll need for videos depend on the kind of videos you want to make. There are paid and free versions of video tools. Using this technique with other online advertising methods can multiply your exposure.

4)  Review Sites

A lot of people go to review sites to decide whether or not they want to buy a certain product. There will probably be a review site for whatever niche or market you’re in: travel, movies, books, games, holidays, cars and products. You can contact the industry owner and find out how to get listed for a review.

Otherwise you can find a lot of individuals who are website owners, one-person businesses and internet or affiliate marketers.  You can go to forums and find review sites. The video covers the procedure for doing this. Find sites and be ready for them to honestly review you.

By incorporating these four strategies into your marketing, you can get increased backlinks and exposure for your Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic strategies.

Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

This is part one of Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic. Although there are many different types of marketing roadmaps, in this particular Video Series we will talk about seven ways to get free traffic to your site or business. This article covers getting backlinks, SEO and better SEO positioning. Better search engine optimization positioning allows you to get better exposure, more traffic, and more targeted traffic to your site or business.

The series contains seven videos. This article covers three of the seven marketing roadmap success strategies.

1)  Blogging Strategy

First, build a blog and post an article that relates to your website. For more search engine exposure, post frequently. When creating a blog choose a title based on keywords related to your niche or site, and use an easy to read template. The first article should be educational content with information or tips to keep people coming back to read more of your articles. This should not be advertising. Then at the end of the article, redirect people to your website. This enables you to get more targeted traffic.

2)  Blog Commenting

Reading other peoples’ blogs and commenting on their articles is another way to get targeted traffic to your site. There is a discussion of free software and using Google for getting backlinks and how to search for blogs and valuable sites to leave comments on to get long-term traffic for your site.

3) Wiki Traffic

A Wiki site is a massive website, knowledge base or online library. Google looks upon Wikipedia as a great site with a good source of content. The video series details this process and how to use Wikipedia safely and legally to get good traffic back to your site without you getting banned.

If you follow each video step by step, even though they might cover different subjects that all fall under the category of free traffic, you’ll start to see traffic come to your site or business within a day of implementing these Marketing Roadmap Success: Getting Free Traffic strategies.

One of the Best Ways to Make Money Online

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

Blogging is one of the best ways to make money online. Blogs are a very popular way of promoting your products and services. They are easy to install, easy to administer, easy to update, and search engines love them. Here are three ways to boost traffic to your blog and start making money online.

1) Update your content regularly

Search engines and blog services love regular updates. It’s very likely that you will get targeted traffic from search engines if you post regularly. I average an article a week. There are pros and cons for this. Some say daily and others say less often is better. It’s really dependent upon your content and your readers. If you’re a beginner you might post less as you may not have the good quality content that long time bloggers have or you don’t want to suffer burn out.

2) Post in forums

You can post in in forums, but don’t spam them. Post something fresh and interesting and put a link to your blog in your signature. Don’t just post in any forum. For example if you’re selling something to do with music, don’t post in forums that have nothing to do with music. Be sure to abide by the guidelines of each forum you use. Forum posting provides valuable one-way links to you that are good for search engine position in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

3) Submit to blog search engines

There are masses of search engines available, that list only blogs. Just do a Google search and you’ll find plenty. These blog search engines will help you with targeted traffic. Be sure to write a good title and a good description for your article so people will easily find it and click on your link.

If you just follow these three steps you’ll start seeing lots of traffic to your blog. Don’t forget to update your blog with fresh unused content that you write yourself. And remember that having a blog is one of the best ways to make money online.

For a step by step guide that reveals how in the next couple
of hours you could be enjoying more traffic and more profits
from video, even if you don’t own a video camera…

Google’s Keyword Tool Is Dead

If you are in article marketing you know the necessity of keyword research and SEO. You have to research the best keywords and then do the SEO using those keywords. Now that Google’s Keyword Tool is dead we have to find something else to use. While you can use the replacement tool—their Keyword Planner—you must open an account and accounts are no longer free.

I know of four alternatives at the moment.

The number one, top of the line keyword search tool is at Webfire.com.

Webfire was developed by people who understand software as well as marketing techniques. However, it’s very costly. That’s to be expected for the top of the line in anything. With Webfire you get 27 traffic-getting tools.

When it comes to businesses getting free traffic, leads, rankings, and exposure for their websites and brands, automation is the key.

Webfire:

Has 22 traffic-getting software tools
Lets you promote unlimited websites
Has world class training and Support
Has a 30 day money back guarantee and you don’t have to upload or download any software to use it.

It works for any site, whether it’s a WordPress site, any other type of blog, or just a website that doesn’t have a blog. It doesn’t matter what kind of website that you have, if you want to promote it and get fast free traffic, leads and exposure, WebFire can help you do that.

It works on a Mac or PC – it doesn’t matter what kind of computer you have. You simply need to be able to connect to the internet and use your internet browser to access the WebFire membership and the software.

This works in any country in the world that you want to access the internet from and promote a website in that location or promote it globally.

Following are three free keyword research tool sites.

1) Keyword Eye
KeywordEye.com is a British site that lets you keep an eye on the competition and monitor how websites link to you.

2) Keyword Spy

KeywordSpy.com allows you to perform advanced keyword research and keyword tracking to study what your competitors have been advertising in their Adwords campaigns and other PPC campaigns. You can get complete in-depth analysis, stats, budget, affiliates & ad copies of your competitors.

3) SEM Rush
SEMRush.com performs the same as Keyword Spy but allows you to go deeper with your research.

Of course there are paid plans in all three free sites from which you can compare and choose. Since Google’s keyword tool is dead, you can use one of these alternatives for your marketing needs.
