3 Basic Internet Marketing Tips

by Rahimah Sultan

The internet is a massive marketplace with all kinds of people – buyers, sellers, marketers, specialists, etc. Your business has unlimited potential to grow when it targets the internet as its market. If you’re a business owner with a website, you’ll want to use Internet marketing. If you don’t, your website is almost useless. Here are three basic Internet marketing tips to keep in mind.

Be sure you have a blog

Blog marketing will greatly boost your connection with potential customers. It will give you the ability to get feedback about your company, products and/or services and communicate with them through the comments section.

If you’re just thinking about setting up a blog, you need to determine exactly why you want to blog and write down your goals. Next on the list should be a step by step guideline that will accomplish those goals.

Then you should learn everything you can from experienced bloggers and determine your own path. Copying others never works. Just use them as examples.

With a static website there are minimal updates, not much new information, and not much customer interaction. A blog makes your website more reader friendly, and Google friendly. Google loves new information. When you post new articles regularly you will get picked up by search engines, of which Google is the most popular.

Make sure your website looks the way your target audience expects

Don’t waste time or money on conceptualizing what your site should look like. Just try and get ideas from successful ones who are in the same market and business as you. Learn from them, and create your own familiar design.

A wisely designed website is the way to go. It doesn’t have to be fancy and perfect. It just has to appeal to your target market’s taste. For example, if your website is about targeting prospects for your jewelry business, make sure it reflects such.

Don’t stop with a website

Many business owners think that once a website is set up, it will run on its own and function properly as it’s supposed to. Setting up your website is only step one – the foundation. After you’ve created and established an online presence, you have to make sure to follow up with other online business needs, which include your blog, search engine optimization (SEO), and social network integration.

In today’s ever-changing online marketplace it’s not enough to just have a website. Your business requires marketing strategies the same as an offline business. For marketing success you must engage in effective promotion.

Whether you’re an established business online or off, or you’re working from home on your own, Internet marketing requires investment of time, energy, and money. There is no free ride. So, make sure you’re visible in the online marketplace to ensure you have a chance at success.

In summary, be sure you have a blog, make sure your website meets your prospects expectations, and don’t stop with just a website. These three basic internet marketing tips are a starting point.

3 Keys to Internet Marketing

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

There are at least three things an Internet marketer needs for business; targeted traffic, a product or service, and a marketing funnel. Following are three keys to Internet Marketing.

Targeted Customers

You need targeted customers who are genuinely interested in your products or services. You can buy traffic or use free sources or both. You should be very careful when using paid sources for traffic, as it can become extremely expensive in a really short period of time.

Product or Service

Your product or service can be an actual physical product that is shipped to buyers or a digital product that can be instantly downloaded to their computers. If you don’t have your own product, you can use sources like Click bank, JV Zoo, and Deal Guardian, to name a few.

Just be sure that whatever the source, they are good products and not junk. You don’t want to taint your reputation. You can also become an affiliate for most products and earn commissions. Research the products and choose those with the best payout. You don’t want to spend your time promoting products that pay very little. Promote products that you use.

Follow-up Strategy

You need a follow up strategy for people who do not buy from you the first time they visit your site. A marketing funnel serves that purpose by capturing visitors’ information and adding them to your list of prospects to be contacted at a later date.

A marketing funnel is the process used to turn leads into customers beginning with the first interaction with you.

When someone sees an Ad linked to your venture and checks it out, it’s the first contact. Now you need a way to capture their information in order to follow up with them to get them to know, like, and trust you. You should have a form on that page asking for a name and email address. When this form is filled in, the prospect is taken to your thank you page which includes a link for the free gift you’ve offered in exchange for their information. This puts them on your list, and you can send them future emails that build a relationship, which will eventually entice them to buy from you.

Once you have a prospect’s information you can remind them of your products and services in a number of ways that include email marketing, online webinars and social media.

You can use an email autoresponder to develop the connection between you and a prospect. An autoresponder is a program that automatically generates a set response to all messages sent to a particular email address.

There are plenty of free marketing tools you can use in your business. You can check them out here.

You need targeted customers, a product or service, and a follow-up strategy for Internet marketing. Using these 3 keys to Internet marketing tips will help you get started.

Successful Email Marketing for Beginners

by Rahimah Sultan

Before the World Wide Web as we know it today, one piece of Internet history was AOL and its “You’ve got mail,” message.

That was our introduction to email.

Social media has replaced that with tweets, likes, and status updates. But we still love our email.

You could say that the inbox has become a place of solitude among the chaos. Here are some tips on successful email marketing for beginners.

People are overwhelmed with pitches and advertisements, and your messages look just like all the others. In order to be invited into their inbox you must take the following steps.

Phase I: Get permission

No email campaign was ever built without permission to start, so you need to begin building a list.

There are several ways you can do this. You can give away something for free or offer a newsletter or product updates.

You need a clear purpose for asking for an email address. A strong, clear, and concise call to action (CTA) is needed that states what will be received in exchange for the email address. Some of the things people want to know…

a) What will I get?
b) Will I be spammed?
c) How often will you email?
d) Will I get relevant offers or more junk?

Be specific in your CTA regarding what you’re offering. It could be a free how-to email series, a download such as an ebook or newsletter and product updates and releases.

Get Whitelisted

While almost all reputable email service providers work very hard to make sure that your emails are not blocked by major ISP’s, they can’t control whether or not your emails hit the inbox or the spam box. Although most will help you by providing a quality score to help you determine availability, getting whitelisted is the most effective way to ensure that your emails get delivered properly.

Essentially, getting whitelisted is equivalent to being marked as a friend, and the best way to achieve this is by being added to the recipient’s address book. The best way to do this is by providing instructions to do so at the top of each email, especially on the initial thank you and first follow-up email.

Phase II: Follow Up

Be consistent and do what you promise. If you say that you’ll be emailing once a week, don’t email daily. You’ll be setting yourself up for failure. The same applies if you tell someone it will be daily and you email once a week.

Almost all email service providers give you the option to create an autoresponder sequence, and you must take advantage of it.

You should send the initial follow-up email immediately as a way to introduce yourself and detail what you plan on doing with your new subscriber’s email address. It also needs to contain a link to the freebie you are offering. Then use your autoresponder to schedule your follow-up emails.

Each business has different needs, and there aren’t any hard and fast rules as to how often you can pitch or provide content, but remember that your email list is a permission asset and it’s best to be cautious in order to keep your subscribers.

Use an Autoresponder

Use an autoresponder to schedule content to be delivered on a consistent basis over the course of several days, weeks or even several months.

The benefit of that is when you do need to announce a new product or sale, you can count on the fact that you’ve already been in touch, having built a relationship over several weeks/months, and are much less likely to annoy your readers.

Be sure to schedule your autoresponder sequence on specific days so that you know when you can afford to send an email. Don’t send more than one per day.

Phase III: Analytics and Segmentation

You want to know the statistics of your campaigns. There are several, although three very important ones are open rate, click through rate (CTR), and unsubscribes.

If your open rate is low, it means that people have started to delete upon receipt, and you need to work harder on providing value and/or managing expectations.

If the CTR is low, you should focus on your copy.

If you have a high unsubscribe rate compared to optin-in rate, there’s a lot of work to do.

Determine when people are leaving. If it’s after a certain autoresponder email, then re-work it. If they’re leaving after marketing messages, then change the way you present offers. If they’re leaving early on in your funnel, then you need to fix your original call to action so that it’s in harmony with what you’re sending.

Email analytics will give you very specific clues as to what you’re doing wrong. Of course you must be paying attention.

Segmentation is splitting your email list into groups of subscribers that have something in common and emailing them separately from the rest of your list.

For successful email marketing you must first get permission to email people, follow up with them using your autoresponder, and use analytics to determine what you may need to change for more success.

For beginning marketers these successful email marketing for beginners tips will help you get started.

Always keep learning. Gather as much information as you can. Take calculated risks.

Solve Problems

Successful people encourage progress by solving problems and answering questions. Can you make life easier for people in an effective way? Can you create a product or provide a service that fills a crucial gap?

Be Persistent

If your first attempt doesn’t work, pick yourself up and try again. Don’t make excuses. You will have failures. Failures don’t define you. They are learning experiences. Don’t repeat the same mistake. Don’t give up.

So, focus on your main objective, avoid distractions, find a mentor, solve problems, and be persistent.

Step out of your comfort zone. Don’t wait for opportunities to fall in your lap. Sniff them out. Blogging has become an essential way to get your message out to others. You can incorporate text, pictures, links, short videos, or other media in your posts that make your content more appealing to readers.

4 Blogging Tips

by Rahimah Sultan

My first blog was on Blogspot.

I didn’t know much about blogging, but started anyway. I used it for an affiliate program I signed up for online.

The program owner offered a template that I used. All I had to do was write my article, using that template, and publish it on Blogspot. The affiliate link code was already included.

I learned a lot using that template and blogspot. I would play around with it to figure out how to use HTML and how to do a few other things.

The drawback of using that platform was not having control.

I now use a WordPress blog over which I have total control.

The following four blogging tips will help you get started.

1. Decide what to blog about.

You will need to know what content you’ll be covering on your blog, in order to choose the proper domain name and theme.

Give this a lot of consideration, as once you’ve set up your site, it will be rather difficult to undo without starting over.

2. Choose a blogging platform.

Within WordPress, you have two options which are often confusing to people. They are hosted and self-hosted.

Hosted is “WordPress.com blogs.”

Self-hosted (recommended) is “WordPress.org blogs.”

WordPress.org blogs give you total control.

3. Find a host.

Once you’ve chosen your blogging platform (.com or .org) you need to find a hosting company to “house” your blog.

Then pick a domain name, install WordPress, and decide on your blog design and the bells and whistles you want.

4. Your domain name should be your actual name.

If that’s not possible, choose a name that represents what your blog is about or one that reflects your niche.

Take into consideration the following four points.

a) Use a short name

“Johnson’s Tea Marketing Campaigns, Inc.” would be an awful domain name. Visitors would find it difficult to type.

b) Do not use plurals

Brendas Software. Is the domain name Brendassoftware.com or Brendasoftware.com?

You don’t want to confuse your users.

c) Use Relevant Keywords in Your Domain Name

If your business focuses on a very specific area, strong consideration should be given to using relevant keywords in your domain name.

d) Your Domain Name Should end with “.com”

End your domain name with “.com” and not some other extension such as .us, .net, .biz, etc.

The simple fact is that when people think of sites, they always type in .com

You’ll get installation instructions with your hosting package.

Do not let lack of knowledge be an excuse for not doing something.

Just start gathering information by doing online searches and get educated on how to proceed.

Now, decide what to blog about. Choose a blogging platform.

Find a host, pick a domain name, install WordPress, design and use your blog!

These Four Blogging Tips will help you with your blogging plan.

Marketing Success: Ad Headlines

by Rahimah Sultan

photo from blog

Ad headlines are used to capture attention. You have only about 10 seconds to capture people’s attention. The headline is used to get people to read the rest of the piece, the next paragraph. It needs to include some kind of promise and it needs to capture an emotion. When using an email it should address a problem and how to resolve it and who your audience is.

When creating great headlines you can rewrite a cliché, add an element of tension, or ask a question. You should give the reader a reason to read further, open the email or click to the website. Offer people something newsworthy and appeal to their curiosity. Be positive and offer quick an easy solutions.
